Recycling Facts

The Facts

  • The most recent EPA waste generation and recovery data suggests that the U.S. generates 11.1 million tons of clothing and textile wastes per year.

  • The recovery rate for these materials is just 15.3%

  • The vast majority of this is suitable for immediate reuse or processing into other materials. They now go largely unused.

The Consequences

  • The equivalent of 15 Boeing 747 jumbo jets worth of textiles are interred in landfills or incinerated annually, polluting the environment.

  • The clothing industry produces large amounts of new clothing, relying on the labor of disenfranchised people in third world countries.

The Solution

  • Join us in our localized effort to prevent the waste of reusable clothing and textiles.  Since 1991 we have kept over 27.2 million pounds of shoes, clothing and household testiles out of landfills and in circulation.
